WHAT IS COVID-19 TEACHING US? (PART 2)

In the previous article, we learned what is a virus. Let’s review important points;

  1. It can not reproduce by themselves (need hosts)
  2. In can not live a long time in the air
  3. In can not travel by themselves

What are coronaviruses?

Coronaviruses are a group of related viruses that cause diseases in mammals and birds (Wikipedia) Some of them are the cause of the common cold, however, others are more strongly damage us such as SARS, MERS, and COVID-19. Those were originally live with bats and wild animals.

We are getting to know the characteristics of this virus:

  • There are some patients have no symptom at all but emit virus (Silent patients)
  • Elderly persons and people who have chronic diseases tend to have severe symptoms (pneumonia)
  • Therapeutic medicines and vaccines have not been available yet.

Now, let’s think about some strategies to manage this virus using the above characteristics and information.

To prevent overshoot the number of patients

The virus can not reproduce by themselves and it needs hosts to do that. Therefore, logically if we can reduce the number of people is exposed to the virus, we can reduce the patients. In addition, if the emitted viruses can not find the potential hosts and stay in the air, they will die (can not infect).

To prevent spreading the virus to other areas

Transporting this virus is very difficult. Only the way is transport in the hosts. Even it finds the host (infected patient) but he/she stay in the same place. The virus must remain in the same place.

In this situation, we do not have drag and vaccines for it. The only and best strategy is “Stay home”. It looks like a primitive strategy but logically this is the most effective countermeasure at this moment. Again, we, human beings are spreading the virus and increase patients. This is our self-management issue.

Empathy with elders, even you do not have any symptoms, you might be infected and emitting the virus. Please stay home and think about what the post corona era looks like.
