What is sustainability?
The most common definition is as follows;
“sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs” by the UN Brundtland Commission in 1987.
This definition is easy to understand and resonates with people who have children.
However, when we look around us, all our activities are not sustainable.
Especially in developed countries. They should do more effort than developing countries. However, unfortunately, the negative impact of unsustainable activities appears earlier in developing countries than in developed countries such as in the case of Maldives. Realizing this situation is the starting point to achieving sustainability. All countries should collaborate and start the implementation at the same time.
We should understand how all these activities are interconnected. To see the relations, we need”systems thinking”.
The framework we use for sustainability analysis is “the three E’s, Environment, Economy, and Equity”.
For the implementation, we use permaculture ethics, Earth care, People care, and Fair share.
Sustainable development is the path of righteousness.
This is the way of management, “Managementdo”.
Let’s have the courage to do the right things.
I totally agree, Sensei.
That’s is why in my own little way I am promoting sustainable development.
This is my Bushido, Sensei.
